Summary

The Advocacy and Communications Team at VillageReach influences the ability of global, regional and country stakeholders to act in support of VillageReach’s mission. VillageReach seeks a highly experienced, bi-lingual (Portuguese and English) professional with strengths in government-centric and collaborative approaches to lead a growing set of advocacy activities for the country’s Mozambique office. The Senior Manager, Advocacy and Communications will work closely with the VillageReach Mozambique country director and other senior leadership, as well as with global, regional, and country partners and donors. Preference will be given to Mozambican nationals or non-Mozambican nationals who have permission to work in Mozambique. This position reports to the Mozambique Country Director, with a dotted line to Senior Manager, Advocacy and Communications in Nairobi.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time.

  • Manage and support government, donor and partner advocacy and communications to advance an integrated and outsourced health supply chain in Mozambique in line with government priorities;
  • Identify and champion the perspectives, needs and voices of public and private supply chain actors at the community, subnational and national level in Mozambique to strengthen global support of sustainable supply chains and health systems;
  • Support the government of Mozambique and partners to strengthen capacity in managing public health emergencies in a sustainable manner;
  • Engage in advocacy to support high-performing community health programs in Mozambique and on the African continent;
  • Strengthen VillageReach’s capacity to convene and engage with policymakers, partners, donors, advisory groups, and other stakeholders in Mozambique to increase impact;
  • Advise colleagues and represent VillageReach in meetings in Mozambique and participate in initiatives, meetings, and conferences that are aligned with VillageReach objectives;
  • Contribute to policy papers, blogs, presentations, whitepapers, grants proposals, strategy documents, and other written deliverables;
  • Identification and management of consultants and vendors in Mozambique for videography/photography, translation and other needs.

Experience and Education

Advocacy and programmatic communications experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience working in advocacy or strategic communications.
  • At least 5 years working in health or international development organization.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in working with government to achieve policy change, stakeholder management and coalition building.
  • Work with CSOs, government, private sector, media and other stakeholders to build political and financial support for health and development goals in low-resource environments.
  • A graduate degree in public policy, public affairs, international development, public health, or related field.
  • Experience working at or with multilateral organizations such as Gavi, WHO, UNICEF, Global Financing Facility, Global Fund, World Bank as well as bilateral aid organizations such as USAID and FCDO.
  • Knowledge of international stakeholders in international health and preferably in supply chain amp; logistics including working with the private sector.

Communications, presentation and writing skills:

  • English fluency; excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Portuguese.
  • The ability to assemble, distill and analyze information for decision-making and presentations. Experience writing articles for major journals.</
